![]() Although I am not a fan of children's movies, I am aware of the song "Let it Go" from Frozen. It is memorable and difficult to forget once heard. While painting, the song's lyrics resonate with me, reminding me to release control over the outcome, to free myself from inhibitions, thoughts, and to trust my intuition. I'm currently running a six-week loose and abstract landscape course. While letting go may seem simple, it's actually challenging. We're often taught to be precise and avoid errors. Though there are times for precision —like in surgery— this course encourages embracing flexibility. I see people struggling to let go and to relax into the process. Loosening up may look easy, yet it can be a hard pill to swallow. I believe, art enables a person to express their inner thoughts and emotions, allowing for freedom of mind and creativity. It is essential to permit this process without self-editing. This approach allows one's voice and feelings to be conveyed on the canvas. As children we were encouraged to go outside and play, use your imagination, have fun and be back by five. However, as we progress through life, the demands of responsibilities, varying circumstances, and the transition into adulthood can diminish our creativity, imagination, and youthful perspectives. Now as my life circumstances have changed, the rigours of corporate life are no longer draining my energy, and I feel my inner child is playing again. My imagination and intuition are taking hold of my art tools, my inhibitions are left behind for another day and the freedom to express myself on a canvas is there for the world to see or maybe just me! Do you find it hard to loosen up in your artwork? Do you like loose landscape paintings? Leave your comment below. Featured Artwork: One of four paintings from grid works. Acrylic paper 350gsm mixed media.
